Merric Boyd jug
Merric Boyd jug. Item 2585.
This roughly textured jug by Merric Boyd has the upper portion glazed in a darker brown. It is not signed by Boyd but, in his handwriting is incised on the base "May Hiscock 1927 May ?-this name is hard to read. Perhaps it was made as a wedding present. It stands 122mm high with a 114mm diameter at the top. It is in excellent condition apart from some light crazing.
Peggy Whiting jug

This Peggy Whiting jug features roughly incised parallel lines under an unevenly applied dark blue glaze. Over the top of this was applied a vibrant blue/green drip glaze. It stands 136mm high and is in excellent condition. It dates from c 1935-40.
Hoffman Centenary jug
Small Hoffman Centenary jug. Item 2536.
This small Hoffman jug was issued in 1934 to commemmorate the centenary of the founding of Melbourne. It features raised profiles of John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner below a banner "Melbourne Centenary 1934" and the quotation "This will be the place for a village"(which differs from the large jug). It stands 120mm high and apart from a small chip to the underside, it is in excellent condition.
Cruffel Art Porcelain vases

This pair of Cruffel Art Porcelain vases are glazed in dark blue and stand 220mm high with the width at the shoulder 130mm. One carries the impressed stamp "Australian Porcelain Co. Ltd. Melbourne Cruffel Art Porcelain". They are both in excellent condition apart from one that has a small chip to the shoulder and some minor scratches. C1930`s.

This Cruffel porcelain jug is signed by Merric Boyd and is dated 1934. It features a drooping, windswept tree on both sides with the handle forming the trunk of the tree down to where it rejoins the jug, exposing the roots. It stands 198mm high and is 140mm in diameter. It is in excellent condition.
Mushroom decorated vase

This attractive mushroom decorated vase is 122 mm high and 185mm in diameter. It features a colourful and well moulded crop of mushrooms amid some long grass. The remainder of the vase is glazed in shades of light blue, light magenta and light green. It is thickly potted and in excellent condition apart from some crazing. It is incised on the bottom with glaze instructions. The last part of the signature is hidden by the glaze, but it appears to be D A Saunders. It dates from the late 1930,s to early 1940,s.

A small Merric Boyd pot standing 65mm high and 93mm wide at the flared top. It has a blue/grey glaze and is signed "Hand Craft Boyd 1921". It has a small indentation on the lip, caused I think, in the kiln and visible in the photo-otherwise it is in excellent condition.

This large, rather striking Melrose vase with its three shades of green, has a smooth glaze to the top but as you progress to the bottom the texture is more like orange peel.Its condition is very good with only some not particularly noticeable crazing and a couple of small glaze chips to the base to mar it. Its height is 225mm and diameter is 215mm. It dates from the 1930`s.

This squat wheel thrown drip glaze bowl by Merric Boyd is 67mm high and 125mm across. It has a rough, rustic texture to it and is in excellent condition. It is signed and dated 1922.

This small Castle-Harris jug with applied grape leaf on one side and grapes on the vine on the other and a twig handle is colored by blue and green drip glazes over a white glazed body. It is in very good condition with some crazing. It is 70mm high and 112mm in diameter. c. 1930`s.

This Bennett`s pottery flower trough is 240mm long, 100mm wide and 105mm deep. It is in excellent condition and has its original frog, although the frog has two minor chips to its base. It is impressed with the mark "W C Bennett" and dates from around 1930.

Rope handled basket by John Castle Harris with applied grapeleaves, grapes and berries. It is in very good condition with a smallish chip to the rim and some very minor damage to the protruding foliage. It is 205mm long, 165mm wide and stands 95mm high. it dates from the late 1930`s.

Rare Carl Cooper cup and saucer decorated with a sgraffito pattern of Aboriginal design. Both the cup and saucer are signed and the diameter of the saucer is 112mm, whilst the height of the cup is 58mm. Both are in excellent condition. c. 1950`s.

This Merric Boyd jug has a very rustic feel about it, from its rough textured body simple design and its blue drip glaze. It is incised with Boyd`s gumleaf mark and dated 1922. It is 110mm high and 125mm in diameter and in excellent condition.

This quintessential late 1950`s Guy Boyd lamp base, featuring a simple incised pattern stands 143mm high and has a diameter of 170mm. It is in excellent condition apart from some crazing.
Henning Rathjen pierced lamp base

Standing 230mm high this intricately carved and pierced lamp base featuring entwined dragons under a magenta glaze is a departure from Henning Rathjen`s(1903-68) normal pieces which were mainly pale or off-white and without much decoration. It is in excellent condition and probably dates from the late 1950`s to early 1960`s.

Large drip glaze vase by Cornwell`s pottery of Brunswick in Victoria featuring a lustrous green and brown glaze. It is not marked but it has their signature diagonally striped glaze. It stands 285mm high and is in excellent condition apart from some faint crazing and a 35mm firing crack at the shoulder. It dates from the 1930`s.
Tom Sanders plate

This 168mm plate is decorated with a sgraffito and painted design of a lady reclining on a couch in between two pierced hearts and inscribed "Je t`aime Yvonne Printemps". Yvonne Printemps(1895-1977) was a French singer and actor. It is dated 1949 and incised "Dorian Sands" the pseudonym of Tom Sanders. Its condition is good with some heavy crazing.

This 165mm diameter plate is decorated with a sgaffitto and painted design of a cloth draped fireplace with a clock on the mantlepiece and inscribed "J`attendrai Tino Rossi". Tino Rossi(1907-83) was a French singer and actor. The plate is incised "Dorian Sands" the pseudonym of Tom Sanders. It is dated 1945. It is in good condition with some heavy crazing.
Cedar Gothic library table

This cedar library or sofa table features carved Gothic panels to the front and solid panels to the ends and rear. The rear panels have been replaced with cedar of similar age and patina. The tooled and gilded leather top is also a replacement. The table has retained its original patina. It is 1830mm long and 800mm deep. C1870.

This cedar bookcase features 3 adjustable shelves in the top, and a full width drawer above two doors in the bottom. It has retained its original patina as well as the original glass in the doors. It rests on replacement bun feet in cedar. The height is 2.090m, width 1.200m and the depth is .460m. C 1870.

This very good quality, full cedar eight drawer chest comes from a time when cedar was plentiful as evidenced by the 12mm thick dustboards, the 25mm thick backboards and the sides and top that are solid planks. The drawers are flanked by two turned columns and the piece rests on turned feet. It has been fully restored and has retained its mellow original patina-ready for the next 150 years. It stands 1415mm high, is 1205mm wide and 565mm deep. The knobs are replacements turned from old cedar. C 1860.

This large, good quality cedar chest features eight drawers flanked by two turned columns and sits on replacement cedar feet. It has retained its original patina. The height is 1.440m, width 1.204m and the depth is .6m. C1850.

A blackwood two tier dumb waiter with a carved panel to the top tier and carved panels to the cupboard doors. The height is 1545mm, the width 1345mm and the depth 525mm. It is in excellent condition and has retained its original patina. C 1905.

This cedar two leaf extension dining table measures 2.44m long and 1.22m wide and rests on brass castors below turned and carved legs. It has been re-polished but some time ago. It is in very good condition. C1880s
Cedar marble top dressing table
Cedar marble top dressing table. Item 2483.
This cedar marble top dressing table features extensive carving to the supports that carry the oval mirror above a semi-circular, sliding, lidded glove compartment. This compartment is flanked by two doors, each covering three small drawers. The serpentine shaped marble top has a moulded edge and sits above a similarly shaped frieze containing a central drawer. The piece is supported at the front by heavily carved cabriole legs and at the rear by simple pilasters, all on a concave plinth with castors. It has retained its original mellow patina and is in excellent condition. The marble is new, as is the mirror. The height is 1840mm, width 1220mm and the depth is 580mm. C 1870.
Cedar Chiffoniere

This Australian cedar Chiffoniere features a classical Palladian back and a shelf with a crossbanded edge, supported by turned columns. The single cushion moulded drawer, with crossbanding, sits above two doors with bookmatched flame cedar panels. The doors are flanked by simple pilasters and the piece sits on a plinth base. The base dates from c1850 and has retained its original patina, door lock and key. The drawer slides and runners have been restored. The back and shelf are not original but have mostly been made up from old cedar that has also retained its original patina. Overall the piece is in excellent condition. Height is 1470mm, width 1220mm and depth 530mm.

This cedar 5 drawer dressing table has a wonderfully deep and rich original patina, and together with the original mirror and castors this piece is in excellent original condition. The front supports are interesting in that they are carved, top and bottom, as well as turned. Dating from around 1880, it is 1605mm high, 1220mm wide and 525mm deep.

This large, mirrored, Huon Pine five drawer dressing table is of very solid construction and rests on porcelain castors. It has been repolished, but some time ago, as it has regained some of the warm character that only time brings to Huon pine. The height is 1500mm, width 1220mm, and depth 510mm. It is in very good condition. It dates from around 1905.
