This very attractive Royal Doulton stoneware vase was modelled by Eliza(or Elise) Simmance who worked at Doulton's Lambeth factory for 55 years from 1873-1928. It stands 250mm high and is in excellent condition. The base is impressed with "Art Union of London". From 1885 till 1902 the Lambeth studios made signed artist's pieces for the Art Union of London, the members of which took part in an annual draw for works of art including vases such as this.(Refer "Royal Doulton 1815-1965" Desmond Eyles). The base is also impressed with the Royal Doulton mark which was first used in 1902, so this piece dates from that year.
