Alabaster and marble lamp. Item 3925.
This very attractive alabaster and marble lamp stands 1.2 m high and is 400 mm wide at the base. The girl is depicted standing at a water fountain, collecting water in the alabaster amphora at her feet. The girls head and shoulders, arms and feet are marble and her dress is a reddish alabaster which has been beautifully carved. The rest of the lamp is alabaster. This lamp was reputed to have been owned by Alan Kippax, the NSW and Australian batsman of the 1930’s. Both handles on the amphora have been broken off and re-glued. The top of the lamp appears to have been broken in half and repaired. C1900.
