Description
Bat printed milk jug c1810. Item 3978.
This chaming earthenware bat printed milk jug by an unknown maker, is decorated on one side with a scene of a classically inspired folly on the edge of a lake in a park setting. The other side features an angler sitting on the bank of a river beneath a bridge or viaduct. Overseeing the decoration is the mask spout defined by a luxuriant beard, with all of the decoration on a fawn ground. It stands 70 mm (2.75 inches) high to the top of the handle and has a diameter of 80 mm (3 1/8th inches). There are a few faint scratches to the piece, some slight wear to the enamel on the rim and handle, and a firing crack to the base of the handle, as can be seen in the photos. c1810.
