Chinese export mother of pearl dish. Item 4511.
This Chinese export mother of pearl dish is shaped as a leaf, with the main decoration an engraved pattern of a simple leaf and branch, almost wreath like design. There is also a simple engraved line that follows the outside edge. The length is 127 mm (5 inches) and the width 100 mm (4 inches). It is in very good condition and displays a lovely play of colour (I’ve tried to show this in the various photos). It would date from the late 1800’s.
Mother of pearl can be moulded or flattened after immersion in hot water.
