Description

Coalport hand painted and gilded vase. Item 3287.

This hand painted and gilded vase by Coalport stands 187 mm (7.5 inches) high and is decorated on both sides with posies of flowers. The moulding top and bottom suggest acanthus leaves, and sprouting from the twig handles are coloured and gilded leaves. These are complemented by the maroon ground and the gilding. This style of vase is sometimes known as “Brewer” vases, named after the potter who originally modelled them. It is unmarked but corresponds to plate 173 in Messenger’s “Coalport 1795-1926”. It is in excellent condition. C1845.
