This very unusual Crown Derby plate is decorated with a central spray of chrysanthemums done in raised gilt work on a very attractive pale cream ground. The sloping rim is decorated with a printed pattern of stylised flowers in the Japanese manner, and in the centre of each flower is an applied jewel-all done by hand. It measures 235mm square and stands 35mm high. There is some very minor loss of the printed pattern to the rim and a very fine crack to the footrim. It carries the Registered Design number 115086 and the pattern or shape name “Harrow”. There is an impressed mark which could be the date mark for 1883 and the printed date mark for 1888 when it was decorated.
