Description
Davenport hand painted porcelain plate. Item 3109.
The centre of this Davenport porcelain plate is decorated with a hand painted scene of a farmhouse on the edge of a dense wood, with sheep grazing in a meadow in the foreground, on the edge of a stream. Surrounding this idyll is a gilt frame in the Gothic taste. All of this sits on a pink ground with gilding to the rim. It measures 229 mm (9 inches) in diameter. There has been some slight rubbing of the gilding to the rim and to a small area of the frame. There is also a small chip to the rim that appears to be ex-factory. When the gilder was gilding the frame he has dropped five tiny drops onto the painting. Surprisingly these are invisible from a front on view, but can be seen in a raking light. It would date from around 1875.
