Description
Doulton Burslem painted and gilded footed bowl. Item 2195.
This shallow, square Doulton Burslem bowl has a centrepiece of hand painted flowers while the border is composed of raised cream arabesques, a painted border of blue and an intricate gilt border. The piece rests on four gilded feet. It carries the pattern number HB2731, which indicates that the designer was Herbert Betteley, a painter and designer at Doulton Burslem from 1886-1930. It also carries Doulton’s pattern number C 7642, which indicates this pattern was first introduced in 1896. The condition is very good but there is some rubbing to the gilding on the rim and a 10 mm long scratch to the painted area. It is 208 mm (8.25 inches) square and stands 50 mm (2 inches) high. Its impressed date stamp is for January 1901.
