Doulton Lambeth faience hand painted flask vase. Item 4455.Decorated in the taste of the Aesthetic Movement, this Doulton Lambeth hand painted flask vase features an exuberance of flowers. On one side, a large spray of daisies sits on a dark green ground, whilst on the other, sunflowers peek out from a brown roundel, all on a graduated green ground. Sunflowers were a major motif of the Aesthetic Movement. Impressed into the base is the Doulton Lambeth Faience stamp, and next to that are two artist’s marks. The F V mark is for an artist whose name is not recorded, but who was a prolific flower painter after apparently joining Doulton’s in the mid 1880’s. The C W mark is for the artist’s assistant Christina Wood. The vase stands 295 mm, or 11.5 inches tall, with a diameter of 255 mm, or 10 inches and a depth of 130 mm, or 5.25 inches. The only damage to the vase has occurred in the kiln, where the sunflower to the lower left has suffered some blistering, as shown in the photos. All the colours remain particularly vibrant. C1880.
