Enamel trinket box by Samson of Paris. Item 4501.This serpentine shaped enamel trinket box is attributed to the firm of Samson of Paris. Samson were well known for producing replicas (or fakes if you are feeling less generous) of many items of previous times. The hand painted decoration on this box is done in the style of Eighteenth century enamel ware. The hinge features a protruding lug at the rear to stop the lid opening too far. This is a feature of Samson boxes, something not seen on Eighteenth century English boxes. The width is 135 mm (5.25 inches), the depth 85 mm (3 5/8th inches) and it stands 60 mm (2 3/8th inches) high. It is in very, very good condition and would date from around 1880.
