Ulysse Besnard of Blois jardiniere . Item 3635.

This very large bombe shaped two handled faience jardiniere is by Ulysse Besnard of Blois, France, and rests on four feet. The hand painted decoration includes swirling arabesques and dragons, and on each side in a central cartouche is a hand painted fire-breathing salamander entwined around the letter F. It measures 500 mm (19.75 inches) in width, is 340 mm (13.5 inches) deep and stands 205 mm (8 inches) high. Overall it is in good condition, however it does have some shallow cracks to the underside of the base, which can be seen in the photo of the mark. It is dated 1879.
