Hand coloured porcelain cup and saucer poss. by Rathbone. Item 3969.
This very attractive hand coloured porcelain cup and saucer is possibly by Rathbone of Tunstall in Staffordshire. It is unmarked, but the cup shape corresponds to Plate 673 in Berthoud’s “Compendium of British Cups”. In that book, the maker is shown as unknown, but in his supplement book “Cups in Colour”, the maker is shown as Rathbone. It is in very good condition and dates from around 1830.
