Hand painted English porcelain letter rack or note holder. Item 3695.
Dating from around 1825, this English porcelain letter rack or note holder, features a lovely hand painted spray of flowers to the upper part of the back, beneath a pierced frame, and a hand painted scene of an English country manor house to the front. Almost certainly this piece would have come from the house that appears on the front. It would have stood on a ladies desk, where the servants would place or take away any letters or notes. It stands 210mm high, is 161mm wide and 67mm deep. It has had some repairs. The back has a crack running from about 9 o’clock to about 5.30 o’clock-it is just visible in the third last photo. The last two photos show the repair to the front right foot. The front has been broken with a repaired crack running vertically from 12 o’clock. It has been well restored recently (post WWII), but not over restored and the repairs are hard to spot. These are fairly rare items.
