Hand painted Grainger Worcester dessert set. Item 3798.
Each of the twenty pieces that make up this dessert, or fruit set by George Grainger & Co of Worcester, is hand painted with a different scene of rural Britain. The outer rim surrounding each scene is coloured a rich dark blue and is highlighted with hand gilding. The pattern number is 2453 and the impressed mark is for the period 1870-1889. The set consists of 16 plates, 2 high tazzas and 2 low tazzas. The plates and tazzas measure 235 mm in diameter, with the high tazzas standing 110 mm high, and the low ones, 65 mm high. The condition is very, very good although it does show faint signs of being used over the last 130 or so years. One plate has a chip to the rear of the rim which doesn’t show from the front and there are a few very minor chips to some footrims.
