Inlaid rosewood sewing box

Description

Inlaid rosewood sewing box. Item 4738. This lovely sewing box is veneered in rosewood and inlaid with pewter stringing and mother-of-pearl terminals. Internally it is fitted with a lift out tray which holds, needles, thimbles and other sewing necessities. The space below the tray would be storage for materials and small uncompleted works. Folding down from the inside of the lid is an envelope for paper patterns. It is lined with its original red fabric and paper, all of which is in very good condition. It has a working lock and key, and retained a wonderfully rich patina to the rosewood. Overall it is in very good condition. It measures 305 mm (12 inches) in width, 230 mm (9 inches) deep, and stands 120 mm (4.75 inches) high. It would date from around 1820.
