Description
Inlaid sewing reel stand and pincushion. Item 3537.
The base of this early Victorian sewing reel stand and pincushion is veneered with a geometric pattern using mahogany and boxwood, with the scalloped edges featuring the same timbers alternating between light and dark timber. The pincushion is covered with a dark green velvet, which may well be the original covering. It stands 160 mm (6.25 inches) high, the width of the base is 175 mm (7 inches). It rests on three round brass feet that probably have bee added later, and the eight reel pins are also brass. The base has warped a little over time, but because of the three feet it it still stable. It has retained its warm original patina. C1840.
