Japanese cloisonne plaque. Item 4099.
This Japanese cloisonne plaque is decorated with an assymetrical spray of flowers including chrysanthemums which is the national flower of Japan. The spray and the hovering butterfly are surrounded by a ground known as goldstone. Goldstone ground is achieved by including light reflecting articles such as brass filings or goldstone itself (note this is not real gold!) in the enamel. It measures 297mm in diameter and is in good condition overall, but it does have a few small chips the enamel. C 1890.
