Description

Klytie Pate bowl. Item 3597.

The glaze on the outside of this Klytie PateĀ (1912 – 2010) pottery bowl is a celadon green, whilst the glaze on the bottom of the inside is an apple green and rising up the wall it slowly changes to a yellow/green, with the only decoration being the slight grooves left by Pate’s fingers as she formed the bowl on the wheel. The walls of the bowl are very thin, being only 2 mm at the rim, and when tapped, it has ring that any producer of porcelain would be proud of. It has a diameter of 230 mm, stands 95 mm high and is in excellent condition. It would date from the late 1940’s to the early 1950’s.

Klytie Pate (active 1934-1998) studied, and later taught at the Melbourne Technical College (later RMIT). After WW11 she retired from teaching and became a full time potter and held regular exhibitions of her work.
