Large French Art Deco figure with deer. Item 4295.This large French Art Deco figure features a woman in a long flowing gown, with a deer to her right hand and a large wicker work basket to her left. The whole piece is glazed in a bottle green glaze. The deer, or fawn, was a very popular motif in Art Deco design. The front of the plinth is indistinctly impressed with the name “Probert”, who I assume was the modeller, and the rear is impressed with “985 France”. It stands 370 mm high, measures 535 mm in width and is 175mm in depth. It does look quite impressive on a mantlepiece, but equally could be displayed anywhere. It would date from the late 1920’s.
