Large Pinder Bourne or Doulton Burslem wall plaque. Item 4026.
This very attractive large wall plaque decorated with applied flowers and leaves bears the impressed mark of Pinder, Bourne and Co of Burslem in Staffordshire. Pinder, Bourne and Co ran from 1862-82. In 1878 the company was purchase by Doulton but the title was retained until 1882 when it became known as Doulton Burslem. It carries the date stamp for May 1881. These plaques were also made under the Doulton name and would have been quite difficult to make. The diameter is an impressive 495mm (or 19.5 inches), it has a depth of 90mm (or 3.5 inches) and it weighs just over 5 kg or 11 pounds. There are four large flowers, several smaller ones and together with some foliage they rest on a mottled background. The condition is very good with only some slight damage to the stamens of two flowers and the loss of the tip of a leaf.
