Large vase by John Barnard Knight. Item 4573.This large vase was made by John Barnard Knight (1910-1993). It was wheel thrown and decorated with an off-white flocculent glaze, over which he applied a turquoise drip glaze in a spiral around the body. This turquoise glaze was allowed to run and form ridges and blobs which add to the interest of the piece. It stands 280 mm high and has a diameter of 195 mm. It is in very good condition. This piece would date from the early 1960’s.
In 1934 Knight was appointed to the teaching staff of the Pottery section at the Melbourne Technical College (later RMIT), retiring in 1975. In 1940 he set up the Janet Gray Studio in South Yarra. He used the pseudonyms Janet Gray and Brockware on his pottery.
