Mahogany bureau bookcase. Item 2831.
This very good quality English mahogany bureau bookcase stands 2135 mm high, is 1020 mm wide and 465 mm deep. Below the drop down writing slope are three drawers and two cupboards. Above are two adjustable shelves on either side of the mullioned door. A drawer to the right in the bureau area has room for pens and inkwells. The tooled leather insert in the writing slope is a replacement. When the slope is closed it features panelling with a deeply carved central rosette to match the carving to the top. It dates from around 1900 and has retained its original warm patina.
