Mashman Brothers pottery float or fruit bowl. Item 1646.This Mashman Brothers pottery float, or fruit bowl has a diameter of 255 mm and a height of 63 mm. Buff, brown, red and a duck-egg blue are the colours of the glazes used. It is stamped with a circular mark which reads “Mashman Bros. Willoughby”. This was the stamp used during the period 1895-1898. According to Geoff Ford in his “Encyclopaedia of Australian Potters Marks”, during the mid 1930’s some employees were permitted, occasionally to mark pieces they made for themselves. Many pieces were decorated with the colourful 1930’s glazes, and stamped with the older mark. There are no cracks or chips, but it does have a little wear to the glaze in the centre of the bowl. Mid 1930’s.
