Mayor of Worcester commemorative plate 1896. Item 1211.These Royal Worcester commemorative plates were given by the Mayor of Worcester, in 1896, to all the children of Worcester’s church schools. They were presented at a fete in the grounds of the Mayor’s home, Madresfield Court. The Mayor was the Rt. Hon. Earl Beauchamp and the Lady Mayoress was his sister, the Rt. Hon. Lady Mary Lygon. The decoration on these plates was done by the lithographic transfer process, and these plates were one of the early examples of this process. This plate measues 270 mm (10.5 inches) in diameter and is in very good condition. It carries the date mark for 1896.
