Melrose possum jug. Item 3939.
This moulded jug featuring possums is from the Melrose Art Pottery range from the Hoffman Brick, Tile and Pottery Company of Brunswick, a suburb of Melbourne . The pottery range was very popular with locals and overseas visitors, and this range of Art Pottery kept the company afloat during the Great Depression. The moulding of the possums was done by William Ricketts, who in return for his art work, was able to fire his own pieces in Hoffman’s kilns. The length is 205mm from handle to spout, the height is 110mm and the width is 137mm. Like most pieces in the range there is some crazing. C1935.
