Description

Pair of Copeland’s hand painted and gilded Imari pattern vases. Item 4404.This pair of Copeland’s porcelain vases are decorated with a hand painted and gilded onglaze Imari pattern over underglaze blue. The pattern number is 2154, with this style of decoration becoming popular again in the 1880’s and 1890’s. On the bases are the handpainted “Spode”, the pattern number, the artists mark and Copeland’s printed backstamp. Also on the base of one is the remains of a paper retailers label, who was in Paris, or had a branch in Paris. The pair stand 150 mm ( 6 inches) high and have a diameter of 90 mm (3.5 inches). Unfortunately one of the vases has two shallow chips to the base, one is 5 mm ( just under 1/4 of an inch) long and the other 3mm (1/8th of an inch). C 1895.
