Pair of handpainted spill vases poss. by Charles Bourne. Item 3795.
Possibly by Charles Bourne of the Foley Potteries, Fenton in Staffordshire, this very pretty pair of handpainted spill vases, or match pots, stand 111mm high and the diameter at the top is 106mm. Between each row of beading is a gilt framed hand painted spray of flowers surrounded by a deep blue ground. The ground is enhanced with a frieze of stylised foliage under the rim and a gilt spray on the back. There is a little bit of faint crazing, and one vase has an internal firing crack running arond the lower level of beading. There is also a 20mm hairline crack to the rim of the same vase. Apart from a painters mark on one, they are unmarked. C1820.
