Description

Pair of Old Sheffield Plate candelabra. Item 4327. This very attractive pair of Old Sheffield Plate candelabra were probably made in Sheffield by the firm of Henry Wilkinson & Co. They stand 465 mm high, and have a span of 440 mm. The arms can be removed revealing a single candlestick which stands 268 mm high. They are of very good quality, weighing in at 6.2 kilos for the pair, and have a lovely soft colour to them. Wilkinson’s firm started in around 1830 and in 1843 they were awarded a licence to use the newly invented electroplating system, so it would be reasonable to suggest that these candelabra date from the period 1836-45. Two of the arms appear to have broken off and have been professionally repaired. Otherwise, they are in good condition, with only minimal wear to the silver on some of the high points.
