Description

Pair of Old Sheffield Plate candlesticks. Item 4162.This very attractive pair of Old Sheffield Plate candlesticks were made in Sheffield by the firm of Henry Wilkinson & Co. They stand 290 mm (11.5 inches) high, on a 124 mm (5 inch) base, and are in very good condition, with only minimal wear to the silver on some of the high points of the base. They are of very good quality, weigh in at two kilos (4.5 pound) for the pair, and have a lovely soft colour to them. Wilkinson’s firm started in around 1830 and registered the cross keys mark in 1836. In 1843 Wilkinson’s were awarded a licence to use the newly invented electroplating system, so it would be reasonable to suggest that these candlesticks date from the period 1836-45.
