Description
Papier mache snuff box. Item 4228.The lid of this papier mache snuff box is decorated with an intricate pattern of (probably) brass filings. The pattern would be printed onto the top using a glue, and then the filings sprinkled onto the glue. Once the glue was dry, the top would be given a coat of clear polish to seal it. The length is 54 mm (2 1/8th inches), the depth is 35 mm (1 3/8ths inches) and it stands 20 mm (.75 inches) high. There are two small chips, one to the inside of the lid and one to the base, but overall it is in very good condition. C 1830.
