Playing card box veneered in walnut. Item 4634. This box, veneered in walnut, has space for for sets of playing cards and storage for small itens to the centre. Once unlocked the front falls down to give access to the cards, whilst the inner lid has space for counters (now missing). Stamped into the red leather lining the lid is the British Registration lozenge, showing that the design of the box was registered on the 6th of September 1871. It measures 216 mm (8.5 inches) in width, 127 mm (5 inches) in depth and stands 100 mm (4 inches) high. It comes with two Pall Mall whist counters and two packs of cards, one of which dates to the 1940’s or 50’s. It is in very good condition and has retained a lovely patina. C 1875.
