Porcelain cup and saucer decorated with Amherst Japan pattern. Item 2880.This porcelain cup and saucer are decorated with a hand coloured transfer printed pattern entitled “Amherst Japan”. Using the Japanese Imari colours of underglaze blue, iron red and gold, the scene is an Englishman’s idea of a Japanese landscape. The cup shape is usually called the French shape, or French Loop handle shape. It is in very good condition and would date from around 1835.
