Robert Burns poetry book with Mauchline Ware binding. Item 3657. The Mauchline Ware binding on this book of poetry and letters by Robert Burns features a photographic view of the Burns Monument that overlooks the River Doon, near Alloway in Ayrshire, Scotland. Also on the front board are four Mauchline Ware prints- “Scene on the Doon”, “Auld Brig O’Doon”, “Alloway Kirk”, and “Burns’ Cottage”, whilst the back board carries a larger print “The Braes of Ballochmyle”. The book itself was published by Gall and Inglis in around 1865. The height is 186 mm (7.25 inches), the width 130 mm (5 1/8th inches) and it is 45 mm (1.75 inches) thick. The spine has been recovered in plain brown leather, there are two chips to the edges of the boards, and there are some small stains to a few pages at the rear and some foxing.
