Description

Hand painted Royal Worcester pot-pourri. Item 2897.

A very attractive hand painted and gilded small Royal Worcester pot-pourri and cover using the old Hadley Worcester shape. The body has two angular handles and stands on four curled feet and the lid is pierced to allow the scent to escape. Both the shape (187) and the painting of pink Cyclamen (pattern 65) are not that common. The fractional number shown on the base indicates the decoration. The number 187 above the line is the shape number, and below the line 65 indicates the pattern-in this case pink cyclamen- and 38 indicates the decorative clay suite. The painter’s number is 5 but their name is not recorded. It stands 178 mm high and is in very good condition apart from a fine firing crack (ex factory) to the base which can be seen in the photo of the marks, and a professional repair to the very top of the finial. It carries the date mark for 1905.
