“Shining Black” milk jug. Item 4152.
This milk jug is glazed with the “Shining Black” glaze that was popular around about 1830. This one has an eagle perched on the handle and is unmarked, but possibly by the Cyples pottery of Lane End in the Staffordshire potteries. It stands 116 mm (4.5 inches) to the top of the handle, and is in good condition apart from a small 5 mm x 4 mm chip to the underside of the lip.
