Solitaire or Bachelor’s Button. Item 4588.This Solitaire or Bachelor’s Button is decorated with a domed black glass centre that has been painted with a spray of flowers, and mounted in brass. The two spring mounted side wings depress to release the back stud, and these were used as shirt buttons or to fasten collars to shirts. They were very popular during the period 1870-90. It was made by Greaves -“Greaves Patent”- one of the better makers. This one has a diameter of 19 mm or 3/4trs of an inch. It is in very good condition.
