Description

Spode hand painted and gilded vegetable tureen. Item 4869.This Spode hand painted and gilded vegetable tureen is decorated around the rim of both the body and the lid, with three moulded sprays of flowers left in the white, and between them are a further three hand painted sprays. There is also a larger spray to the centre of the dish. To finish it all off, there are very thin gilt lines around the edges, inside wider gilt lines. The pine cone shaped knop for the lid is intricately gilded. The pattern is number 2248, which was introduced in around 1816. The diameter is 257 mm (10 inches) and it stands 155 mm (6 inches) high. There is some very, very faint wear to the gilding, a very shallow chip to the inside of the lid’s rim and some short, thin firing cracks in the same area. The chip measures 14 mm (.5 of an inch) by 6 mm (.25 of an inch). The tureen would date from around 1820.
