Sterling silver box by Nathaniel Mills & Sons. Item 4190.This sterling silver box by Nathaniel Mills & Sons is decorated on all sides with a geometric engine turned pattern. The central cartouche on the lid is engraved with the initials J A M. It measures 58 mm (2.5 inches) in length, 35 mm (1.25 inches) in width, stands 14 mm ( a touch over half an inch) high and weighs 32 gms. The small size and the flower in the cartouche would suggest that this box was owned by a lady, perhaps for use as a pill box. A silversmith has repaired a small split that followed the engraving of the cartouche on the lid, and the lid has sprung slightly. It carries the Birmingham date mark for 1851.
