Description

Verreville bone china cup and saucer. Item 4280.This hand painted bone china cup and saucer  was made at the Verreville works in Glasgow.  It is decorated with a daintily painted decoration of small flowers and foliage. The base of both pieces is marked with the pattern number 200. Otherwise it is unmarked, but the cup corresponds to plate 82, on page 16 of Berthoud and Maskell’s “Cups in Colour”. The Verreville (Glass Town in French) Glass factory was set up in 1777 in the village of Finniston on the north bank of the Clyde, and by about 1830 it had moved into pottery and bone china production. The pottery closed in 1918. The cup and saucer are in very good condition and date from around 1840.
