Description

Wax seal impression in a turned lignum vitae box 52 mm diameter. Item 4556. This nicely turned lignum vitae box with a domed lid contains a wax seal impression featuring a coat of arms below an earl’s coronet, and above the motto “Comme Je Fus”. This Latin motto translates to As I Was, and was used by the More family of Lancashire, and a Baron Ward. The ebony box has a diameter of 52 mm (2 inches) and stands 13 mm (1/2 inch) high. There is a split to the lid of the box and the seal is split in two, but held together by the backing paper. This piece would date from the first quarter of the nineteenth century.
