French silver mounted moss agate snuff box

French silver mounted moss agate snuff box. Item 4718.This circular French snuff box features polished moss agate to the lid and the base, with a central ring of polished green stone to the centre, joined by silver mounts. The interior has been given a gilt wash. Both the interior top and bottom of this box have been struck with tiny, but illegible French hall marks. The diameter is 75 mm (3 inches) and it stands 35 mm (1 3/8th inches) high. The moss agate on the base has several scratches as does the top where there is also a larger area of damage that measures 6mm (.25 inch) by 3 mm (.125 inch). The central green stone has a number of vertical breaks, but is stable. It would date from the latter part of the 1800’s.
