Gilt decorated Queen gothic papier mache tray. Item 3861.
This very decorative and striking Queen gothic papier mache tray is decorated with inlaid abalone shell and a fantastic gilt chinoiserie scene to the central cartouche which itself is surrounded by C-scrolls, stylised flowers and pendant foliage. It is unmarked, but of very good quality. The length is 730 mm (28.75 inches), the width 545 mm (21.5 inches) and it stands 30 mm high (1.25 inches). It has had a few, reasonably well done repairs, and I have tried to show these in the last half a dozen photos. The first and last of the repairs photos show the front and back of the same repair which measures approximately 50 mm (2 inches) in length. C 1840.
