Description

Ridgway hand painted and gilded slop bowl. Item 4876.This John and William Ridgway hand painted and gilded slop bowl is decorated with their pattern 2/1041 where each of the almost paisley shaped gilt edged cartouches contain sprays of various flowers, and these cartouches are surrounded by a cobalt blue ground and extensive gilding interspersed with pale yellow flowers. This slop bowl would have been part of an expensive tea set at the time as cobalt blue and the gilding were costly to purchase. It measures 177 mm (7 inches) in diameter and stands 86 mm (3.5 inches) high. There is a very small amount of rubbing of the gilding and an equally small amount of crazing. Please note that in some of the photos what appears to be long scratches are actually the reflection of the lights in my light box. It would date from around 1820.
