Description

Three hand painted and gilded plates from Ridgway dessert service pattern 6/1488. Item 4882.These three hand painted and gilded plates would have been part a Ridgway dessert service and are decorated with the pattern 6/1488. This richly decorated pattern features three gilt enclosed cartouches that extend to the rim and contain sprays of hand painted flowers. The gilding continues to the centre of the plates and to the rim. The gilding, together with the flowers and the orange ground to the rim make these plates very eye-catching. On the back of one is a shop sticker showing that these plates were bought at some stage from the shop of Geoffrey Godden in Worthing for 48.00 pounds. Godden was the pre-eminent authority on antique ceramics and author of many books on the subject. The plates have a diameter of 240 mm (9.5 inches) and are reasonably good condition with some very minor loss of the ground and gilding. They date from around 1850.
