Tunbridge ware writing box. Item 4720.This very attractive Tunbridge ware writing box features three bands of geometric veneer matched with a nicely figured walnut veneer. Internally it is fitted with an unusual stationery storage area next to the inkwells and the pen storage, as well as two secret drawers hidden below the inkwells. Beneath the actual writing slope with the replacement tooled leather, is storage for letters and other stationery. The box measures 354 mm (14 inches) in width, 252 mm (10 inches) in depth and stands 160 mm (6.25 inches) high. It has retained a lovely patina. There is an area on the lid where the veneer has cracked some time ago, and this can be seen in the photos. It would date from around 1880.
