Description
Lorenzo Rubboli two handled lustre bowl. Item 3181.
This two handled, footed bowl with a lustre glaze is by Lorenzo Rubboli of Gualdo Tadino in Umbria, Italy. The centre of the bowl is decorated with a stylised flower which is contained within several differently coloured rings. The outside features stylised acanthus leaves in a geometric pattern, and the whole piece is finished with a lustre glaze. Carrying on the pioneering work done by their father Paolo, and after the collapse of the Societa Ceramica Umbra, Lorenzo and his brother Alberto formed a new company in 1931. However the brothers went their seperate ways in 1936, and Lorenzo died in 1943. The bowl stands 77 mm (3 1/8th inches) high to the top of the bowl and 89 mm (3 1/2 inches) to the tops of the handles. The diameter of the bowl is 130 mm (5 1/8th inches). Overall it is in very good condition, but there are some minor signs of use. It would date from the late 1930’s.
