Description

Westerwald stoneware jug. Item 4797.On the front of this Westerwald stoneware jug, amongst all the other raised decoration is a raised faux coat of arms. Parts of this armorial and the other decor on the jug are coloured in a rich cobalt blue with dashes of a manganese brown, set against the grey of the body. Probably a beer jug, it stands 258 mm (10 inches) high and has a diameter of 152 mm (6 inches). The base is marked with an impressed shape number 1242, which also appears where the top of the handle meets the rim. This is probably from the factory of Johann Wilhelm Remy of Hohr, then in Prussia. It is in very good condition and dates from around 1890.
