Dutch hand painted delft tile. Item 4842.In the centre of this Dutch hand painted delft tile is a portrait of a well dressed man of the 17th Century carrying a staff or stick. To the corners are creeper leaf motifs, and interestingly, on the rear of the tile, is the drawn outline of a dog-perhaps the painter was practising his animal sketches. The tile measures 130 mm (5 inches) square and is 11 mm (3/8ths of an inch) thick. There is a small area to the top where the glaze has been lost. It dates from the period 1620-40.
