Ernst Wahliss Art Nouveau trinket box and decorative jug. Item 4535. This handpainted Art Nouveau trinket box and decorative jug (possibly a specimen vase) carry the Ernst Wahliss backstamp. They are decorated with vivid blue cornflowers and green foliage, together with convolvulus flowers and leaves done in a white and green raised enamel, all on a gold ground. The jug carries the signature of the artist-the last letter is difficult to read, but it could be C Rene, C Reny or C Renj. The trinket box has a diameteer of 79 mm (3 1/8th inches) and stands 45 mm (1.75 inches) high. Written on the base is the shape number F5167 V, and the pattern number D9491. The jug is 117 mm (4.5 inches) in length, measures 63 mm (2.5 inches) at its widest, and stands 81 mm (3.25 inches) high. It carries the shape number F8680 11, and the pattern number D9491. The jug has had a repair to the handle where it meets the body as can be seen in the photo. Otherwise, both pieces show minimal wear. Both pieces would date from around 1905.
